Here's where you get to learn a little bit about the family! The first time I did anything crafty was in 1979 when I started ceramic classes. That was the start of it all! From taking a few lessons in ceramics I knew I wanted more! I bought two large kilns and started up my own classes in the basement of my home. I had 66 students a week - what a ball we had! 66 women coming through the house in one week - my dear husband thought he had died and gone to heaven! I think teaching ceramics had to be the most fun we had for a long time - there was always lots of laughs and when you get a few dozen crazy women together in one room, boy, look out!

From ceramics I ventured into oil painting - I am basically self-taught. I prefer to paint with a pallette knife instead of a brush because I like the texture you can get with a knife. I did many art and craft shows over the years and my paintings now reside in many homes and offices around the world.

I then went to work for Bell Canada International where I stayed for eleven years until the office moved to Montreal. During that time I still did craft shows on weekends - I could never give up crafts even though I was working because it just meant too much to me. After my job finished, I decided to make the craft business my full-time job - but I never really considered it a job. It was a passion of mine. I just loved learning new things and I added them to my list of crafts. The list keeps getting bigger as the years go by though!!! I often wonder if there will be a time when I will run out of ideas! But each year brings more surprises.

All those years have brought me to where I am today. I have my own jewelry line, my own hand-painted candle line, I sew stuffed fabric items, I dress and personalize bears, I now do watercolors as well as oils. My next craft is just waiting around the corner for me to discover!

I couldn't do all that I do without the help of my husband, Jimmy. Without Jimmy, there would be no craft business, because without his help and encouragement over the years I wouldn't be here today. He helps me enthusiastically with a smile on his face and a joke in his back pocket! He loves to do my craft shows and 'chat up' the little old ladies. They just love him and he truly enjoys telling them all about my products and how proud he is of me. He is my biggest supporter. My customers continuously come back to tell me how friendly and kind he was to them.

Jimmy is now retired from the Ottawa Fire Department and enjoys helping me with my shows. He's one in a million, my Jimmy. Jimmy has written a riveting book on his 39 years with the Ottawa Fire Department entitled "This Firefighter's Life" and it is now for sale at local bookstores in Ottawa and the Valley. For those interested, Jimmy's book is also sold at my craft shows and through this website as well as Jimmy's website www.jimmyallen.ca . It is a wonderful book that will give you a great insight into what our wonderful firefighters go through on a daily basis.

My oldest son, Gary, lives & works in Vancouver and manages to come home once a year. He just loves it out there. Since going out west he doesn't plan on moving back to Ottawa any time soon, because he is so happy out there.

My son, Mark, is 34 years of age and has a great job at CBC in downtown Ottawa. He also teaches at Carleton University one night a week. He lives in Russell, Ontario with his wife, Michelle, son Colin and new son James.

My daughter Colleen is 32 years if age and lives in Kanata, Ontario. She is Currently working with developmentally challenged adults and part time at the school board as a teaching assistant.

Thanks for taking the time to hear all about my family. I hope you enjoy your visit to my craft pages.
